Industrial Grounding and Bonding for Static Control

Scenario

A chemical plant transfers toluene (a Class IB flammable liquid) from a tank truck to a storage tank using a pump and hose system. The storage tank is bonded to the facility grounding electrode system. The tank truck driver connects a bonding cable from the truck chassis to the storage tank before connecting the transfer hose. The transfer hose is conductive (static-dissipative) with a resistance less than 1 megohm per NFPA 77. The pump is bonded to the piping system. All connections are verified with an ohmmeter before transfer begins.
